From Down South to the extreme west African Music forged in traditional and contemporary cultures alike have claimed their spot on the global stage with more and more international acts jumping in to collaborate with various African artists. The rise to global stardom and accolades to heavy weight artists like Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Sauti Sol, Ferre Gola, DJ Maphorisa, DJ Black Coffee and many others has over the years formed a basis as a guiding path for new age artists to push the bar even higher in to the global stage. Trailblazing new age artists like Rema, Harmonize, Oxlade, Kizz Daniel, Otile Brown, Sun-el-Muscian, Sha Sha, and many more have continued to champion continental sound.
We have seen African artist fill up and even sell out Arenas across the globe. Many others have had successful tours in various regions like Kizz Daniel Australia tour or Otile Brown US Tour. Key African Artistes like the celebrate OBO Davido have headlined major shows internationally. The Global Citizen held in Ghana featuring Usher, Tiwa Savage and many other African artistes was also a key highlight of the year. In overall, there has been a significant increase in the number of single and album/EP projects released by African artiste in 2022 than previous years. More and more artist are now getting to their fans more quickly and easily with increased adoption of streaming platforms across the continent and beyond.
The African Music scene has clearly come of age and despite challenges surrounding issues like copyright and mismanagement of artist the industry is seemingly ready to usher in a chapter of exponential growth and to welcome more inclined and culturally fused sounds as more of African culture and style goes in vogue.
