Best of
Africa’s music scene is going through a renaissance period and so many things are shaping up right from the tonal syncopation, music rhythm and tempo. I’m loving work put up by these artists. This renaissance period has brought along new female emcees that have taken the airwaves with a bang here among the top new female emcees and some of their works.
Tems
I regard TEMS as Africa’s future music Gemini. The manner in which she managed to channel her energy to her voice and be able express to her music in the way she does is pure art.
Her music is focused on promoting the movement currently shapping alternative music in Nigeria to advance culture and conversation.
My favourite jam still would be “MR REBEL”. Incredible tone, production and song writing was put on this jam.
“on the ground, im the winning sound, im the crown, im the vibe im the leading vibe”
I would vibe on any Tems sound.

Rosa Ree
Being a female emcee in east Africa is not something that anyone can just jump on. Rosa Ree popularly referred to as the rap goddess by her fans is one hell of an emcee. Despite her music videos being controversial in her country, I thing Rosa Ree has put enough work to her music.
Her style of rap is more diverse and loves mimicking African heritage and cultural to most of her music. My favourite would be “WATATUBU”
“Leo mambo ni mapana ka panzia la sinema pombe ni konki asifiwe mgema”
Rosa Ree’s vibe is more typical to Kenyans STL and the beauty in it is she is doing it in own way.
GYAKIE
It’s her alto, it’s her melody that evokes emotion seamlessly. Gyakie’s voice is a trade mark on its own by the Ghananian musical sensation style of music is heavily influenced with rich African culture and a chilled out RnB type of a vibe.
Gyakie’s music really caused a buzz in the Afro music scene. The best thing I’m loving about all these new breakout singers is that finally they are all embracing African as a source of authentic and genuine style of music.
My favourite Gyakie’s song is “Nana Nyame,” the sobre feel and tone in this jam make me feel like Gyakie’s style of music is timeless and can be passed down to the future generation.
“sun up till sun down
We de stress
One thing we dey look for
Be your grace”
FAVE SZN;
FAVE SZN is one of talented creatives who realized the power of social media and made a kill out of it. The voice, the words, the sound and the feel that fave displays in her music pure Euphoria. I’m still wondering where Nigerians are getting these new female emcees. FAVES style of the music is so chilled out and touch of Carribean vibe is like her secret weapon.
I’m still waiting for her music. My favorite jam is baby Riddim. The lyricism in this piece is a work of art.
“My baby bad, my baby good my baby all the things I need”
Go listen to FAVE you won’t regret it I promise.
Ayra Starr
Her sharp and swift ascent makes Ayra Star among the most promising new voices in the African music scene. Don Jazzy should be given enough credit for exposing Ayrs Starr to the music scene.
Ayra Staro’s style of music is heavily influenced by African rhythms and a little touch of a carribean vibe. My favourite jam would be “FASHION KILLER” Ayra’s style of music has a poetic flair, compelling both syntax and musicality.
Her songd often have brighter, more mellow production even when they are upbeat.
“Picture a chandelier on my head I see the diamond wet everywhere”
