2020 was a confusing year thanks to the ravaging pandemic. 2021 was more about optimism that we will build back up again and find a footing not just as a continent but also in our individuals. Fast off, the year has quickly slid through like one of those no sooner than moments in a composition passage. The year has also proven to be unsettling and things don't seem to be getting back to normal, perhaps the new normal is not normal enough.
Even so, the pandemic has in some ways proven to be a wake up call if not a blessing in disguise. For some, its like the world stopped for a moment and showed us to view things from a different perspective and more so focus on ourselves and the things that matter most. African music has truly cemented its place, influence and impact on the global stage and despite the uncertainties African music has once again come through for us.
From the Amapiano dribbles to the melodic baselines and syncopated rhythms or the blend of new age Caribbean fused afro-styles of Music, the collective has been about laying it bear, keeping it real, not letting things get to you and laying off the burden. These tracks allowed us to unwind and shed of the excesses in our lives and narrow down on the things that matter, therefore finding fulfillment in life little pleasures.
Even so, this songs inspired us to embrace self love, and charged us up to push the limits and up our game and sometimes just unwind and flow with the wind. These songs have built memories with us to become the soundtracks of some our best and worst moments and every chance we get we putting them on repeat.
